Communities

We have been learning about our community and the people in it.  We have been talking about the needs in a community and the difference between something you need (housing, food) and something you want (toys, movie theatres).  We also had a visit from a police officer!  That was exciting!

Bird Art

We have been studying some winter birds and learning about which birds stay through winter, so we made some bird art.  The students did a fabulous job!

Birdfeeders!

So, after a nice holiday break, the students came back to class enthusiastic about our culminating task of making a birdfeeder.  The task was to use some background knowledge about materials from our science unit, to build a birdfeeder that would be suitable for our winter climate.  The students made a plan, and followed their sketches of their birdfeeder.  Here are the results:

Chicken Soup with Rice

We have been reading a Big Book called Chicken Soup with Rice.  The students love this book!  The book can be sung to a catchy tune and we have been singing it as well.  It is a story about the months of the year, and the little boy loves chicken soup with rice so much that he eats it all year round.
